The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects. Lottery players raise £30 million each week for projects all across the UK and the Awards are a great way to highlight how that funding has changed the UK for the better.

Now in their tenth year, the Awards recognise the incredible difference that Lottery-funded projects have made to people, places and communities all across the UK with the 400,000 grants that have been made since 1994. They also celebrate the talent, hard work and amazing dedication of the
people involved in running them.

Bristol North 1 Forum is run with the support of BREAD youth project, empowering local young people to take an active role in their local community.

'As a youth forum we undertook a questionnaire with local young peoplein April 2011 and again in May 2012 and the cost of bus fares was the issue most raised by young people in our area. We live in areas on the outskirts of Bristol (Avonmouth, Sea Mills, Shirehampton and Lawrence Weston) and some young people come from low income families. We rely on buses to get to shops, college, school, other services and youth clubs' Emily Broadhurst, 18 years.

They enjoyed a full day out in London, including taking advantage of Boris bike hire to

visit Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square finishing with a trip on the London Eye.

This award is continuation funding for Juicy Blitz Youth Involvement Project, Lawrence Weston, for a further 4 years, 2013-2017.

BREAD received the award during a surprise cheque presentation as part of the Big Lottery’s England Portfolio Launch a held at @Bristol on Thursday 22^nd of November, celebrating 18 years of the National Lottery.

"This is fabulous news for BREAD. Juicy Blitz has been a highly successful project and it's great to know that the fantastic work can continue to support young people in Lawrence Weston. The continuation funding has come at a perfect time as we celebrate 10 years of the project. I hope the celebration can be a catalyst for attracting more funding, help us to recruit new trustees and develop new partnerships."  Rhiannon Holder MBE, Co-chair - BREAD Board of trustees

This is a much needed and continued investment in tackling the inequalities that many young people living in Lawrence Weston experience and it comes as a relief in the current economic climate to have received this funding to sustain a much needed support mechanism for vulnerable young people who are often trying to overcome multiple disadvantage in their lives, that would have otherwise been at risk . We're extremely proud of the projects achievements over the last 5 and a half years and by those young people who have been empowered to make a significant contribution within their community as a result of their involvement in BREAD's Juicy Blitz initiative. To celebrate these significant events Juicy’s young leaders hosted a Cocktails and Cupcakes party at Juicy Blitz.  The celebration was attended by local dignitaries including the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Rt Ho Cllr. Peter Main and Charlotte Leslie MP, local community stakeholders and representatives of local businesses who continue to support the project.

Special thanks go to Nicky Lancaster and her colleagues from Everywhere Everything Ltd whose fundraising provided special cup cakes topped with BREAD’s, Juicy’s and the Big Lottery logo’s for our celebration, along with the fabulous BREAD/Juicy Blitz hooded tops that young leaders have earned through leading local initiatives for young people and are proudly wearing in the photographs.
